Inside Look

The most common questions I get from students are these: “What am I doing with my life?” “How do I keep my faith while all my friends are walking away?” And the common emotions surrounding these questions: Loneliness. Confusion. Doubt. Anxiety.

College age is not an easy time, and it seems that everyone is on the fringe of either thriving in their faith or walking away. The thing that I have found helps students push through these questions is community. For many students it isn’t usually one profound teaching or event that helps them lean into their faith. Instead, it is the consistent community of like-minded believers. One student, Abigail, reflected on her time in our college group and said this:

“I was really lost before I joined the college ministry. I felt like I was alone and had no trajectory in life. Joining college ministry helped me focus in on my faith and draw closer to God in a safe and loving environment. The college experience is full of stress and negativity and can often feel lonely as a believer. Being around people your age who believe the same things you believe is really powerful and impactful. This year I have learned so much about myself. God has taught me that I am loved and worthy, and He showed me that He will always take care of me.”

These students are full of questions, yet so committed and passionate about growing together in their faith.
